“At the City, we manage thousands of accounts. Having a reliable tool to know who does what — and when — is critical.” — Didier Godot, Director of Information Technology, City of Saint-Hyacinthe

With more than 25 years of experience in information technology, Didier Godot has dedicated his career to making digital environments more efficient, simpler, and more secure. After working in healthcare, education, and transportation, he now leads the IT team at the City of Saint-Hyacinthe, where he is spearheading a digital transformation centered on cybersecurity and identity and access management.

From Healthcare to City Operations: A Career Built on Discipline

Before joining the City, Didier held several key positions in the public sector, notably as Head of Technological Infrastructure in healthcare. This is where he first discovered Remote Desktop Manager (RDM), Devolutions’ solution that centralizes and simplifies remote connections across multi-server environments.

“In the healthcare network, we managed more than 1,200 servers. RDM allowed us to control everything from a single interface. I immediately appreciated the product’s quality and stability.”

Armed with this experience, he kept Devolutions on his radar. When he joined the City of Saint-Hyacinthe in 2023, he once again faced a familiar challenge: significant technical debt and thousands of credentials that needed to be secured.

The Need for a Reliable Password Manager

Upon his arrival, the City was using an open-source solution for password management. For Didier, this approach had clear limitations: too many manual steps, a lack of traceability, and uneven security across departments.

“We had a basic solution, but for an organization of our size, it wasn’t enough. We needed to manage between 2,000 and 3,000 credentials — we needed something more robust.”

He then decided to adopt Devolutions Hub, a solution he already knew and trusted.

“I had already used Devolutions' products in the healthcare network, so I knew Hub would be a safe choice.”

A Natural and Rapid Adoption

Integrating Devolutions Hub was seamless. Its intuitive interface and web version allowed the IT team to adopt the solution almost immediately — with no formal training and no resistance to change.

“My team adopted it within a few days. It’s simple, intuitive, and designed with IT administrators in mind.”

Hub quickly became a central tool for identity and access management at the City. It securely stores and shares credentials while providing complete visibility into activity.

Didier summarizes the advantages as follows:

  • Complete centralization of credentials in an encrypted vault
  • Access auditing: full traceability of who accesses what, and when
  • Decentralized control: other departments can use the tool without relying on IT
  • Ease of use: no training required, rapid adoption
  • Enhanced security: unique passwords, standardized policies, and reduced human risk

“In cybersecurity, the password is still the first point of entry. With Hub, that door is finally locked.”

A Strong Foundation for Future Growth

For Didier, Devolutions Hub represents the first step in a gradual journey toward privileged access management. His medium-term goal: implement Remote Desktop Manager (RDM) at the City of Saint-Hyacinthe, just as he successfully did in healthcare.

“Every year, we add a new security layer. After MFA and EDR, access management is our next priority. And RDM will be part of the solution.”

His approach is structured: stabilize, automate, then optimize. He relies on tools like PowerShell Universal and Power Automate to eliminate manual tasks and strengthen the City's overall security posture.

The objective: a more fluid, more intelligent, and safer environment for the City’s 700 municipal employees.

A Local Solution With Local Support

One aspect Didier particularly appreciates about Devolutions is the Quebec-based support — responsive, highly skilled, and accessible in French.

“It’s reassuring to speak with someone from here, who understands our reality. We know we’re understood, and if there’s ever an issue, we don’t wait 24 hours for an answer.”

He also highlights the product’s value for money and the frequency of updates as trust-building factors. At the same time, he follows Devolutions’ communications and case studies, which he finds relevant and credible.

A Clear Vision of Modern Security

For Didier Godot, tools like Devolutions Hub don’t replace humans — they allow them to focus on what truly matters. And for him, what matters most is access control.

“I recommend a password manager to everyone — even at home. We can’t live without one anymore.”

With Devolutions Hub, the City of Saint-Hyacinthe is progressing toward a more structured, more human, and more sustainable approach to cybersecurity, firmly rooted in its digital culture.
