In June, we showed how the AI assistant in Devolutions Remote Desktop Manager (RDM) 2026.2 can carry one request across Windows and Linux sessions, document the work, and triage logs. That approval-first approach continues in 2026.3.
The changes covered here apply to RDM for Windows. The release makes each step easier to follow, gives you more choice over how you use the assistant, and connects completed work to your tickets.
Stay in control of what the assistant does
Because RDM holds access to sessions and credentials, its AI assistant needs clear limits and visible actions.
Follow each step and approve actions
The updated conversation transcript, activity feedback, and tool approvals make each step easier to follow. You can see what the assistant is doing and when it needs your approval to continue. Approvals remain part of the workflow, so you can review each action before it runs.
Route AI traffic through your own proxy
Teams also need control over where AI traffic goes. In the AI assistant settings, you can configure a custom proxy provider and add custom headers. If your team sends AI requests through an internal gateway, RDM can use the same path. RDM also supports GitHub Enterprise Copilot authentication for organizations that use Copilot through GitHub Enterprise.
Turn the assistant off when you need to
The AI assistant is optional. Administrators can turn it off in the application and system settings. Group Policy settings also control whether AI features are visible. If your team does not want AI features, you can hide them.
These controls set the limits. The release also gives you more choice over how the assistant fits into your daily work.
Choose where and how you use the assistant
You can place the assistant where it is useful and choose how you interact with it.
- Detachable chats: Since RDM 2026.3.8.0, you can move a conversation into its own window. For example, you can keep the chat on a second monitor beside your sessions.
- Panel position: You can choose where the AI chats panel appears in the main window.
- Copy with formatting: A copy action on completed responses keeps line breaks and Markdown. This helps a summary paste cleanly into a ticket or document.
- More ways to connect: The new
Customprovider lets you connect the AI assistant to your own endpoint, as long as it uses the OpenAI, Anthropic or Ollama API. That covers a self-hosted OpenWebUI server or a company AI proxy. Enter the URL and any headers it needs, like an API key. If your local models are slow to load, you can set a longer timeout. The GitHub Copilot provider also works with GitHub Enterprise, and you can choose the context window for Copilot models. - Voice dictation: You can speak a prompt instead of typing it. The speech-to-text model runs on your computer, so your audio stays local.
These options keep the assistant close to your work. When the task is complete, you can carry the result into the same ticketing workflow.
Update the ticket without leaving RDM
The 2026.2 workflows showed how the assistant can do the work and prepare a clean record. In 2026.3, you can send that record directly to a supported ticketing system.
The assistant can list pending tickets, look up a ticket, add comments, log work, and change a ticket’s status. After a maintenance task, for example, you can ask it to add the summary to the related ticket and log the time spent. You can still review each action before it runs.
Tell us what would make the AI assistant more useful
Your feedback helps us decide where the AI assistant goes next. We want to know what would help your team get more from it. For example:
- The tasks you want the assistant to help with
- The tools and systems you want it to connect to
- The actions you would trust it to run without asking each time
- The approval controls you would need before you give it more responsibility
Tell us what matters most to your team. Your feedback will help shape what comes next.
Try the AI assistant in RDM 2026.3
To see how these changes fit your workflow, download the latest version of RDM and connect it to your preferred provider with the AI assistant setup guide. Then try the assistant on one of your regular tasks.
