October is Cyber Security Awareness Month. This is a global initiative that raises awareness about the importance of online security, and educates individuals and organizations on how to protect themselves from cyber threats.
To mark this annual event, this month we are asking: What online risks do users underestimate the most?
These are the prevalent and potentially devastating threats that many users don’t take seriously — but absolutely should.
Here are some possible answers to spark your thinking:
- Phishing
- Weak passwords
- Reused passwords
- Public Wi-Fi risks
- Outdated software and devices
- Oversharing on social media (including location and metadata exposure)
- IoT and smart device exploits
- Third-party app risks (such as granting excessive permissions)
- Potentially malicious browser extensions
You can share as many online risks as you wish, and which you think EVERY user in 2025 should (finally!) be aware of and properly address by changing their behavior, adopting technology, or both.
