Devolutions 2024 Roadmap

Hello everyone!

Once again, it is my pleasure and privilege to share the Devolutions 2024 Roadmap. This is our annual look ahead at some of the major additions and improvements that we have planned across our product roster, along with projected completion timelines.

We have a very good record — actually, so far it is perfect! — of achieving our Roadmap objectives on time, and in many cases even ahead of time. In 2024, we will do everything we can to maintain this standard.

In a moment, we will dive into what we have planned in the months to come. First, please allow me to say a few words to three very important groups: our customers, my colleagues, and our strategic partners.

• To our customers: On behalf of the entire Devolutions team, thank you for your tremendous support and inspiring loyalty. The deep and authentic connection that we enjoy with our global user community is our most important and cherished asset. We exist to serve your needs, solve your problems, and support your success. And the reason for that is simple: without you, there is no Devolutions. We have never lost sight of this fundamental truth, and I promise you that we never will. Focusing relentlessly on customer experience and success is in our DNA. It’s who we are.

• To my colleagues: You are the best and the brightest, and it is an honor to work alongside you. Your competence, work ethic, talent, and creativity drive our organization — and your personal commitment and dedication to teamwork keep us on track and heading in the right direction. Thank you for everything that you have done and will continue doing to keep our organization stable, strong, competitive, and growing. I am reminded of the saying: “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.” We have a lot of distance to cover in 2024, and I know that together the journey will be energizing, fun, and full of many successes!

• To our strategic partners: You are a core part of our strength and success. Thank you for continuing to play a crucial role in helping deliver our roster of solutions, and for sharing the Devolutions story with more people in more places. We look forward to elevating these relationships in the months ahead!

And now, please join me on a high-level tour of the initiatives and developments that we have planned for 2024. We begin by focusing on what’s coming up soon in March, and then shift our focus to what’s on the horizon for later this year.

Productivity Without Compromising Security

Devolutions’ guiding principle is helping IT professionals be productive without compromising security. Too often, in today’s threat environment, products make a trade-off and treat productivity as an afterthought. You can have both, and Devolutions provides the tools to secure your environment and get more done.

With that in mind, the 2024 roadmap focuses on three core themes: productivity, security, and the foundation of our products.

Saving IT Professionals Valuable Time

Devolutions grew out of the need for better and more productive solutions and we haven’t lost that focus. It’s no surprise that the list of features coming soon and later on is long. We can’t wait for you to get your hands on everything below!

Available in March of 2024

Unified

• NEW Stop hunting for vaults: favorite your vaults for quick access.
• IMPROVEMENT A brand new user interface greatly improves the user experience in Devolutions Server (DVLS), Hub, and Workspace.

Remote Desktop Manager (RDM)

• NEW Sometimes you are in the field and need to run a PowerShell script. With remote PowerShell support iOS and Android, RDM mobile gets you back to the desk quicker.
• NEW IT teams have many scripts: centralize your scripts with custom parameters and credential support in a built-in script dashboard.
• NEW Quickly access your custom commands with the SSH Command palette.
• NEW The new standalone CyberArk data source makes integrating your existing CyberArk installation easier.
• IMPROVEMENT Expanding on our previous SSH key support, RDM supports even more key types and makes management even easier!

Devolutions Hub

• NEW Access your PowerShell, SSH, and Telnet connections directly in the Hub web interface via Devolutions Gateway.

Privileged Access Management (PAM) Module

• NEW DVLS - With a custom PAM provider, update a separate vault entry entirely, even an entry saved in Devolutions Hub.
• IMPROVEMENT DVLS - No longer limited, PAM entries gain attachment and documentation support.
• IMPROVEMENT Hub - No more waiting 5 minutes or more! PAM operations take effect immediately and reflect changes upon refresh.

Devolutions Gateway

• NEW No more remoting to a server to open AD Users and Computers. With the web-based Active Directory console, securely modify your users and groups anywhere.
• NEW VNC is everywhere, now you can access it anywhere with web-based support in Gateway.
• NEW Access macOS remotely through the web with ARD support.

Workspace Desktop & Mobile Applications, and Browser Extension

• NEW You’ve been asking forever, and it’s almost here! Safari (macOS) browser extension support for Devolutions Workspace.
• NEW No more copy and pasting updated passwords: the Workspace browser extension will automatically update your changed passwords.

Later in 2024

Unified

• NEW Further organize your vaults by business unit, such as an MSP client, a division, a site, or partner.
• NEW Need to collect information before opening a connection? Gather information from a form document template built into RDM.

Remote Desktop Manager (RDM)

• NEW Support your cloud users directly from RDM with the Google Workspace console.
• NEW Not to be outdone, take control of your Microsoft Azure Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) with the upcoming console.
• NEW When a server shuts off, it’s often an emergency. A built-in HP iLO (integrated lights out) console means you can get up and running even more quickly.
• NEW Support remoting to Linux servers and desktops with integrated X Windows support.

Devolutions Server (DVLS)

• NEW Don’t let SSH keys fall through the cracks with SSH key management directly in DVLS.
• NEW Expanding on the ticketing system support within RDM, DVLS will support custom ticketing solutions like ServiceNow.

Devolutions Hub

• NEW Sometimes you just have to get rid of a lot at once. With mass deletion of entries, avoid all the clicks and get back to work quickly.
• IMPROVEMENT Finding the right entry can be hard, but with the improved search bar you can locate what you need even more quickly.

Privileged Access Management (PAM)

• NEW Hub - Sometimes you don’t need a full check-out process. With optional PAM check-outs, access your PAM-managed credentials quickly.
• NEW DVLS - Make sure a password is quickly rotated with automatic rotation on session close.
• NEW DVLS - Cater to unique needs with custom PAM password rotation policies.
• IMPROVEMENT DVLS - Directly create an account with a provider for just-in-time (JIT) provisioning.
• IMPROVEMENT DVLS - Find even more un-managed privileged accounts with an enhanced discovery process.
• IMPROVEMENT DVLS - Just-in-time (JIT) elevation is even better thanks to numerous improvements to existing accounts.

Devolutions Gateway

• NEW Acting as a SOCKS5 web proxy, Gateway can route TCP packets with even more flexibility.

Workspace Desktop & Mobile Applications, and Browser Extension

• NEW Securely store and autofill business credit card information.

Security Without Compromising Productivity

IT professionals may think of security as an impediment to productivity, but it doesn’t have to be. Keeping yourself, your organization, and your customers safe gives you the peace of mind to focus on what’s important. Devolutions’ focus on security features makes that easier while keeping you efficient!

Remote Desktop Manager (RDM)

• IMPROVEMENT Active Directory synchronization is improved by the ability to update entries rather than recreate on synchronization, allowing for more efficiency.

Devolutions Server (DVLS)

• NEW With upcoming API and command-line tool improvements, lock application keys by IP address for additional protections.

Devolutions Hub

• NEW Simplify enterprise SSO onboarding with automatic user additions through the new on-premise Encryption Service.

Devolutions Workspace Desktop & Mobile Applications, and Browser Extension

• NEW Support Passkeys in the Workspace browser extension.

Later in 2024

Unified

• NEW Some entries are sensitive backups for use in emergencies. Seal these entries with extra protection.

Remote Desktop Manager (RDM)

• NEW Keep track of your terminal sessions with Asciinema-format terminal recording support (later in the year, available on the web).

Devolutions Server (DVLS)

• NEW Embedded Certificate Authority with SSH, X509, and Authenticode Signature now supported.
• NEW Ensure compliance with an Auditor-specific role.
• IMPROVEMENT The traditional DVLS Administrator role has been divided into more granular roles and permissions.

Privileged Access Management (PAM) Module

• NEW DVLS - Send an alert when non-PAM managed privileged accounts are added.

Devolutions Gateway

• NEW Add proxy-based session recording support.

Devolutions Workspace Desktop & Mobile Applications, and Browser Extension

• NEW Support Passkeys in Devolutions Workspace mobile.

Building an Even Stronger Foundation

Successful organizations and products are built on a strong foundation, and Devolutions is no different. Though we have a strong foundation, we are constantly looking towards the future and how we can be even better.

• IMPROVEMENT In our quest to make mobile RDM the best out there, many improvements are coming in the next release.
• IMPROVEMENT RDM will be updated to use the .NET 8 framework.

Devolutions Server (DVLS)

• NEW Expose devops API with secret management capabilities.
• NEW Eliminate single points of failure with the high availability scheduler service.

Devolutions Hub

• NEW Support even more organizations with Okta directory support.

Devolutions Gateway

• NEW Find hidden devices and endpoints with web-based network discovery.

Devolutions Workspace Desktop & Mobile Applications, and Browser Extension

• IMPROVEMENT Since you can’t always control your connection quality, we are improving the offline mode.

Later in 2024

Remote Desktop Manager (RDM)

• IMPROVEMENT Long-awaited Per-Monitor (V2) support for display flexibility.

Privileged Access Management (PAM) Module

• IMPROVEMENT Hub - Custom PAM provider support for password reset and propagation scripts.

Giving Back to Our Customers

Our work is cut out for us this year, but we aren’t done yet. Our customers deserve a free tier with Devolutions Server and Gateway — just like with Remote Desktop Manager — that is feature-rich and helps secure your environment. You may ask: didn’t you already offer those for free? Yes, but we are making them even better.

Starting with the upcoming March release, you may install and use Devolutions Server for free with up to ten (10) users. There are no strings attached, and it contains many full product features. DVLS free is a great way to start migrating your existing and hard-to-maintain Microsoft SQL data sources!

As powerful as Gateway is in segmenting and securing outside access without costly VPNs, you’ve told us that it can be hard to wrap one’s head around. We’ve heard you and developed a standalone Gateway interface (an excellent alternative for complex Guacamole setups) to help you take advantage of Gateway even more quickly. Here’s a sneak peek:

We’re Just Getting Started!

As you can see, we have a lot of exciting developments planned for the months ahead. But if you think that this is all that we have prepared — think again!

Please remember, we call this a “Roadmap” because it is a high-level overview of major milestones and objectives. It is definitely not meant to be a complete list of all additions, enhancements, and adjustments. We will be doing MUCH more. We are not talking about dozens, or even hundreds of changes. We are talking about thousands of them, ranging from small (yet still necessary or important) to substantial.

To help ensure that we continue serving your needs, solving your problems, and supporting your success, please let us know about your experience with our products. Tell us what you like and want us to enhance, and just as importantly, tell us what you aren’t thrilled about and want us to change, re-invent, or remove.

To wrap things up, once again I would like to extend my immense gratitude to our customers, my colleagues, and our strategic partners. Because of your combined support and dedication, 2023 was an extremely strong and successful year for us. This is especially noteworthy, since many IT companies struggled to emerge from the pandemic, and several were forced to shut down entirely. Thanks to you, we didn’t take a step back — instead we surged ahead.

Yet with all of this being said, we expect 2024 to be even better. The past has been great, but rest assured that the best is yet to come!
